We’ve had a pretty hectic couple of weeks and it’s always nice to get out for a family dinner, particularly if the mini Royal has had a sleep. That way I know we can make it through main course without having to eat single handed whilst bouncing a babe in my arms!
Other than a traffic jam trying to get in the front door following lots of other families pushing prams – the restaurant was fairly quiet for that early hour of the evening. We are fairly lucky that the Royals usually go to bed early, so trying to find a restaurant that will serve us at 5pm is sometimes a bit of a challenge!
Anyhow we were quickly seated into the restaurant near the bar, and there was even enough room to park the pram next to our table, which is always good. The staff were lovely and accommodating whilst we arranged and rearranged ourselves with jackets and coats and all got comfy.
They have a few really good options for kids meals here too (Check the Little Sheets Menu *get it*) – either order just the mains, or bundle it with a drink and choice of dessert (ice-cream or fruit salad) for just a few dollars more – winning!!!
So we got the drinks and kids meals ordered whilst we reviewed the menu. The other half seems to be on a bit of a tour-de-la-ribs at the moment as he was debating between a burger and the full rack of ribs!!! He finally decided on the Full Rack of Sticky Pork Ribs served with fries and a green salad and although he has a healthy appetite, this meal nearly had the better of him!
I was torn between the bruschetta and the Haloumi Burger! The Winter Share Board would also have gone down a treat, but the waiter appeared and I was trying to think on my feet, so went with the safe option of Fish and Chips which didn’t disappoint!
The kids meals of Fish and Chips were served with piping hot fish but thankfully the chips weren’t 1000 degrees and they could happily snack on those whilst waiting for the fish to cool down. Big thanks to a thoughtful chef who didn’t send out crazy hot chips – as my least favourite pastime is chief chip blower! Having your starving kid rapidly trying to devour every chip in sight only to keep spitting them out in horror that they are still too hot… is not the best way to start dinner!
There are lots of craft bottled beer, and beers on tap with Matso’s ginger beer being at the top of our favourites list, plus there are also a few options from Little Creatures and Feral for good measure. However if you’re feeling inclined they have a few options for cider too – or why not get a beer tasting paddle if you really can’t decide!
The wine menu has lots of easy drinking choices with very respectable prices, a welcome change from the price per glass paid at most restaurants! There’s also a good selection of spirits and liqueurs for those inclined, or some bubbles if you prefer as well.
We always have the best intentions to order dessert, and we both wanted to try the sticky date pudding however I nearly had to roll the other half out the door so that wasn’t going to happen unfortunately. Perhaps I can convince him to have a slightly smaller main meal next time so we can try a few of their desserts because they really do sound delicious!
I completely forgot about the Royals’ dessert, and it wasn’t until we were out the front of the restaurant that I remembered – but thankfully they just wanted to go home. It’s always a lovely walk along the boardwalk back to the car – even though the wind was freezing cold, the fresh sea air is always so refreshing!
A great family friendly restaurant – I’d recommend making a booking if you wanted a bigger table or needed a booking during normal adult eating hours (that said 5pm was still busier than expected) but we were lucky to walk in early enough that it wasn’t an issue.
We will certainly be back for another visit to 3 Sheets soon. I really recommend trying it out, even if you do have all the kids in tow. The staff were all really accommodating and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the food was good!!! And honestly – who doesn’t want a night off from cooking and the dishes every once in a while! Love HRM.
